From the top of this 150 foot pole the death defying ritual is preformed to the plaintive tune of a flute and small drum. As the ropes unwind the dancers circle the pole 13 times . According to myth the ritual was created to ask the gods to end a severe drought.
Colourful markets are everywhere, tended by warm, friendly people.
