BONAVISTA NL

"This land is your land, this land is my land,
From BONAVISTA to Vancouver Island.
From the Arctic Circle to the Great Lakes waters,
This land was made for you and me."

In 1497 John Cabot laid claim to this new found land. As the tale is told, he whispered the words "Buena Vista", a beautiful island. To commemorate 500 years of this moment BONAVISTA built a replica of Cabot's ship, The Matthew based on sailing ships of that century. We toured the ship in it's dry dock where it is housed for the winter. The photo of the ship in the harbour is from a postcard.

Dinner on the inner harbour at sunset was perfect.
