POSTCARDS from NAPLES ITALY

A new adventure today as we chose an excursion called 'The Flavours of Sorrento', which again did not disappoint us. We travelled by bus from the port of Naples along a rugged, picturesque coastline to Sorrento, a small town in Campania, southern Italy, overlooking the Bay of Naples with a view of Mount Vesuvius. We had fun shopping and enjoying the quaintness of narrow side streets. Our tour bus then took us up a steep, very narrow mountain road to Le Colline de Sorrento a working farm that caters to tourists with it's demonstrations of making mozzarella cheese and limoncello, a very potent digestif made with lemon rinds, alcohol, water and sugar. After a very hearty lunch served in a garden terrace we walked through an olive and citrus grove and learned all about the pressing of olive oil. I still have difficulty making choices of olive oil in a grocery store. It was a delightful time being out in the country away from the crowds we experienced yesterday in Rome.

This was the appetizer - three homemade cheeses, salami, olive and roasted red pepper pate. Then came the pasta entree, wine, and cake for dessert.
