Snow fell in skiffs, and melted just as quickly leaving sparking raindrops decorating the Maple tree, which still hung on to its crimson leaves. Autumn turned to winter with a new season to celebrate.
Welcome to our home as I share preparations for Christmas
My most favourite time of the season is celebrating Advent between Nov 30 - Jan 6
The faded photo takes me on a journey which began over 2000 years ago when Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, and to this day there has been Advent, a time of waiting for and preparing for the return of Jesus as the King of an eternal, peaceful kingdom.
Over the past 25 years or so I have immersed myself in this lovely tradition by journalling my own journey in this life of faith and hope. I have collected a number of books, and in the past few years have loved the daily devotionals I receive by email each morning from Biola University Center for Christianity, Culture and the Arts.
Preparations also began in my kitchen where sugar and spice melded in Pfeffernuesse and several varieties of biscotti. My granddaughters Avery and Kyla came and baked traditional Zweibach which were saved for the family get-together.
Everyone found a seat either in the living room or around the dining room table. Everyone mingled during the evening and grandchildren went to the basement to play crokinole, card games or just chilled out.
As grandparents we shared gifts for everyone.
Our home was crowded, cosy, and filled with so much love.
A little painting I created brought nostalgia of ornaments from childhood days
I love cooking fresh cranberries, so shiny red into a sauce that accompanied our turkey dinner for two.
This beautiful spotted Poinsettia was delivered after Christmas which added a burst of brightness in our kitchen nook.
Lights twinkle indoors and out as I finish this blog entry
before the New Year Bells ring.
Thanks to family and friends for being part of my journey.
WELCOME 2025
