THE FIRST DAY OF THE SUMMER MONTHS

"I awoke this morning with a devout thanksgiving
 for my friends, the old and  the new."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

What a magnificent way to begin a new week with an invitation from new friends to join them on their boat. No, it wasn't that little sailboat in the distance but rather a nice speed boat with just the right cruising speed on this gorgeous day full of sunshine, a light breeze and a clear blue sky.

In a quiet bay we unpacked the goodies for our lunches to be shared - wraps and croissants, veggies, fruit, and of course a thermos of coffee to go along with the sweets. Conversation was never at a standstill. I like what Madeleine L'Engle says:

"We can share with each other without being threatened by each other's differences
 because we know that we are united by Christ, and this union is a union of love."

Across the lake to a heritage site at Fintry Provincial Park where we stopped for a stroll along the beach and peeked in at a couple of the unique buildings. I was drawn to these windows on the old stone manor house.

The octagonal barn and
 fresh, sweetly fragrant Wild Rose blossoms.

My very best old friend - handsome indeed!

Catching the afternoon sun.
 The girls kept the bow of the boat down and also got the best vista of all the 'ginormous', opulent, lakeside homes, only to look at and drool over. But the best choices for us that we agreed on were just the little cottages right beside the lake. Dream on!  Time to go home to our own best place.

 " Memory has painted the perfect day
With colours that never fade;
And we find at the end of a perfect day
The soul of a friend we've made."
C. J. Bonds
