RIDING THE RAILS

For those of you who thought our trip was over, I was just saying farewell to the Maritimes and then on to a continuing adventure.
In Halifax we boarded VIA Rail for a 25 hour journey to Montreal, QC. Treated ourselves to touring class which gave us a cabin for 2 which converted into a sleeper for the night, the privilege of sitting in the dome car at any time where we were given a champagne welcome, a sweet hostess who gave us tidbits of information along the way, and a lovely wine and cheese tasting party.

The day turned rainy after some hours which stifled the photo ops. Hints of fall were spotted in New Brunswick.

With touring class came three gourmet meals in the dining car. Couldn't resist my obsession to take food photos as I was served a roasted vegetable and goat cheese salad, a citrus infused seafood salad, salmon with a honey/mustard sauce and a decadent chocolate/Carmel dessert.

The St Lawrence River as we neared Montreal. Our overnight trip was two hours longer than scheduled because in the middle of the night an 18 wheel tractor/trailer got stuck on a crossing. Thankfully the truck driver had a cell phone to call 911 who alerted VIA rail as the incident was just after a curve along the tracks and the train engineer would not have been able to stop.
