FRESH FRUIT and DESSERTS

It's cherry season in the Okanagan Valley and right on it's heels are apricots, peaches and raspberries. The Farmer's Market offers so many stalls of these delicious fruits that it becomes difficult to make choices. I was ecstatic to be given a large basket of rosy apricots because I had asked for some really ripe ones to create my favourite dessert, and to think these juicy delights would have been tossed in the compost at the end of the day. The market is such a happy place and I am beginning to look for the familiar vendors, and most often meet a friend or an acquaintance with whom to exchange passing pleasantries.

Caloutis - a baked French dessert of cherries covered
with a flan-like or custard batter. Best served lukewarm.

Rainier Cherries - so sweet

Blushing apricots

My favourite fruit dessert is Platz -
a Mennonite tradition often baked in large pans
using a variety of fruits topped with
 buttery, sugary crumbles.

A large pan of apricot platz never lasts long!

I just packed my suitcase and I am heading across the Country to have some of your platz. Your recipe is the best. Enjoyed the rhubarb platz in May.
