SUGAR AND SPICE

There are a few Christmas traditions that I just need to cling to like baking a few sweets, whether we need them or not! These spicy little pillows called Pfeffernusse are the perfect morsels packed with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, anise, and of course a big pinch of black pepper. How I would love to keep the aroma of all these spices permeating my kitchen all the time, but that would be too dangerous with the temptation to dip fingers into the cookie jar. Tradition became richer like buttery shortbread as I shared todays baking experience with my daughter - sugar and spice mixed together with laughter and love.
