NEW YEARS DAY 2016

There is comfort in the old, the familiar. In this age of technology in one's hands I am likely in the minority when it comes to keeping an old-fashioned date calendar. On this first day of the year I spent time reviewing the days and months of 2015, little squares carefully highlighted with important family events like birthdays and anniversaries, surrounded with appointments, social events, concerts, church responsibilities, vacation times and so much more; a diary of sorts which is rather public as it hangs in my kitchen where much of my life happens. There is joy and satisfaction in choosing a calendar each year, beautiful pictures that capture my fancy, some with quotes that are inspiring and challenging.
This quote from November 2015 is a good one for me to carry forward into this year, to put into practice each day.

" Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word,
a listening ear, an honest compliment,
or the smallest act of caring,
all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
Dr. Leo Buscaglia.

The white squares and pen are ready to begin this simple act
of ordering and recording my days in 2016.

A sense of anticipation floods over me, what will these days bring?

I too like writing on a paper calendar. Thanks for sharing that quote. Good reminder that our lives touch others by a simple smile.
