GIFTS FROM THE SEA

"Pleasure is spread through the earth in stray gifts to be claimed by whoever will find."
William Wordsworth 1806

The vacation was planned long in advance with websites scoured for things to do, but when the time came to pack our bags it was not with the same excitement, as health problems had me wondering if we should cancel last minute.
We went with God's peace and the gift I received was the overwhelming beauty that the ocean gave me with every new day, from the moment the sun slipped up over the horizon to the roar of the waves through the night.
Ann Morrow Lindbergh in her book "Gift From the Sea" says: "The beach is not a place to work; to read write or think... at least not at first." I so agree, as the sea was all I needed to entertain my mind as it rolled and splashed, roared and crashed, ebbed and flowed in never ending rhythms.

Sunlight dancing on the water.

Cabo Bello beach with our vacation rental, Misiones del Cabo on the far left.

49 stairs down to the beach from our unit at the top of the lawn area

Bougainvillea hedges lined the pathways which wound around Misiones up hill and down. No lack of exercise here!

Flowers are always Earths gift to me wherever they appear.

This place was sooo peaceful. Many mornings we had the pool to ourselves.

Not much reading ... just content to BE

A family of small iguanas skittered around the pool deck.

Lunch on our patio always included a game of Scrabble

Rule seven was the only one that I obeyed with caution as the waves in our cove were unforgiving in their rough play

Each wave that swept onto the beach left the potential of gifts from the sea, treasures to find as they glinted in the sunlight

"One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach " Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Our 47th anniversary was celebrated at Sunset Point Wine and Pizza Lounge, overlooking El Arco, the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula. It is here that the Pacific Ocean becomes the Sea of Cortes. The conch shell was trumpeted to signal the end of another beautiful day. The evening ended with a surprise shot drink of Lemincello

These statues pretty much represent our disposition the day we ventured out to see some supposedly beautiful botanical cactus gardens, only to walk miles and miles in the heat in very dilapidated acres of dusty paths which eventually led us to the ocean and then we walked circles trying to find our way back to the road. There we took a Collectivo bus (a very rattly local form of transportation ) Our gift that day was riding through the poor neighborhoods where the school kids in their uniforms and blue collar workers got on and off and smiled at us. Smiles are gifts. This bumpy slow ride gave us an appreciation of the people who work so hard and very low wages, living in poor conditions, to make our vacations comfortable with their service in the tourist sector.

The dry scrub and cactus along the 1/2 mile walk from the main road to our resort. Cruise ships in Cabo San Lucas harbor.

Enjoyed two excursions to the city to walk around the marina filled with expensive yachts and to enjoy good Mexican food in several restaurants.

Pina Coladas beside the sea.

The sea gave me a place to relax, to be lost in the vastness of God's creation. Each day was a gift spent with my best forever friend who also got caught up in the delight of finding treasures from the sea, tiny bits of turquoise sea glass to hold and remember.

  1.
  2. O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!
  3. O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
    How He watches o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne!
  4. O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best!
’Tis an ocean full of blessing, ’tis a haven giving rest!
    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis a heav’n of heav’ns to me;
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!
Samuel Trevor Francis 1834 - 1925

"The waves echo behind me. Patience - Faith - Openness - is what the sea has to teach. Simplicity - Solitude ..... But there are other beaches to explore.
There are more shells to find."
 Anne Morrow Lindbergh
