WRAPPING UP SUMMER CAMPING

Summer camping wrapped up with our exploration of a small area of Wells Gray Provincial Park, also nicknamed 'waterfall park' with 41 named waterfalls. We camped at the North Thompson River Provincial Park, our 52nd on the list of new BC parks.

Trails took us deep into a pristine forest with high canyon walls layered with a colourful mosaic of rocks from ages past. Where rivers have carved paths through the layers gush out spectacular waves of water like Spahats Creek Falls with a drop of 75 meters.

                                                                  Geological layers

Dawson Falls on the Murtle River resembles a mini Niagara Falls

Helmchen Falls thunders down 141 meters into a spectacular gorge.

Along the road a bear feasting on berries.

In contrast to the rushing waterfalls, we embarked on a boat excursion on Clearwater lake taking us about 50 km up through calm water in a palette of rich blues and greens.

The jet boat slowed to a crawl through a river channel till we entered Azure Lake.

Along the lake we slowed to admire more waterfalls and to scan the shoreline for bear sightings.
The boat slid up onto a sandy beach with a campsite and picnic area. Our friendly, fellow cruise passengers were a family from Holland and a couple from Vienna, Austria. We were amazed at how much of our beautiful province they had already explored.
The tour guide gave us a tasty bag lunch, but not until we had a little hike through the lush forest of ferns, berries, tall trees laden with mossy characters and animals for us to imagine.

A trappers cabin holds many tales

Rainbow Falls rushing down to meet Azure Lake

After lunch we paddled on Azure Lake towards Rainbow Falls

So many photo ops of reflections but in the end I store them in my memory.

Another sparkling waterfall, and then it was time to turn on the turbo jets to return to the dock before the sun went down.

                                                                       A day well spent !
