THE FLAVOURS OF SPRING

One of my springtime passions is browsing through garden centers, seeking out new plants to beautify my garden. On my first visit of this season I was perusing the herbs when I came across this intriguing plant ...

Chocolate Mint
A little rub of the leaves and with a whiff I was convinced that this plant was coming home with me. I planted it securely in a clay pot as I was warned that it is wildly invasive.

Pie Plant - as my sister, the artist calls it, is prolifically putting out it's stalks as fast as I pick them in my garden.

The local farmer's market has opened for the season, so on Wednesday I was on a mission for some fresh garden produce, and what a delight to find these baby Bok Choy and a dill plant to prepare a new recipe for supper.

Spring Minestrone
From Chateleine magazine online.

I love this recipe of 'Stir Whole Wheat Bread' from Mennonite Girls Can Cook. It is so easy, quick and delicious with soup. This fresh bread was nicely complimented with Havarti Cheese and Peppercorn Goat Gouda which we picked up at 'The Farm House Natural Cheeses' in Agassiz on our little vacation last week.

For dessert the rhubarb was stewed and flavoured with a little strawberry jello powder and Splenda. Garnished with strawberries sprinkled with the chopped chocolate mint leaves. YUM!

Spring brings good things!

Hi there girlfriend... I am so glad that you had such a good time and such lovely weather on your secret getaway!

We had such an awe sometime in Palm Springs that we are now planning another vacation south for September... this time to Yosemite, Lassen
Volcanic, Zion and Grand Canyon National Parks.

Happy cooking...smf
