OF ROCKS AND SAND

From rocky headlands, rugged cliffs, mysterious sea stacks, the devil's punch bowl, tunnels and caves, rock shelves riddled with tides pools, pebbles I can hold in the palm of my hand, to the sand on the seashore blown to the heights of dunes - all declare the power of water.

The shape, form, layers, colour and texture hold such a fascination for me, whether to gaze at from a distance, clambering over, rolling in my hand or sifting through a clenched fist.

A favourite memory for me is sitting on a beach of small pebbles, therapeutic moments as I staked a claim, excavating back and forth with my hands to expose tiny bits of beach glass and possibly agates. Treasures to share with grandchildren. Beach stones - frugal, humble, but not cheap.

The splendour of the sea revealed in the products of it's strength.
