BUNS AND JAM

The most nostalgic aroma of freshly baked bread infused my house at 7AM this morning and quite likely seeped under the door sill to turn a head of a passerby. Something stirred my memory bank yesterday to years gone by when baking bread was a weekly task to feed 4 hungry children. Was I inspired by the blog posted by my daughter about her desire to attempt yeast baking, or maybe it was the gift I had given a DIL the day before? I recently gave all 4 of our girls a copy of Mennonite Girls Can Cook for their birthdays and my dear husband gave me the same book 'just because.' I am so inspired by the authors of this recipe book and their daily blog.  And as we all know there are many  more Mennonite girls who are great cooks, passing down traditions taught us by our mothers and grandmothers

I used a cold water dinner roll recipe that a friend used to make for our Alpha suppers. They were mixed late afternoon yesterday and formed into little rolls at 10 PM to proof all night, so that's why they were baked, hot and ready by the time coffee was on.

Mmmmmm, breakfast was extra special this morning

First what is DIL? If I lived closer you would have heard the doorbell. Yummy

Those rolls look so good. I like the idea of making them the night before...I may try that.
