DECEMBER MUSINGS

On the Eve of this Winter Solstice, as the daylight fades, I share some musings of places we have been in the past week. The days have been mostly pleasant for walks and here we were wandering around Father Pandosy Mission established in 1858 which is now a historic site.

                                                       The chapel from 1860

A km walk around Munson Pond, which had a skim of ice on it is usually a birder's delight with ducks and geese using it as a landing strip. Today it was quiet with only this flock of black birds in a nearby field.

A stop at the 1892 Benvoulin Heritage Church. We have lived in Kelowna almost 40 years and have been in this lovely circular sanctuary for a wedding, Christmas craft fairs and the ordination of a friend to the office of priest,  but this was the first photo I have taken.

The musings take me to this time during the pandemic where we are home for Christmas with no gatherings with our family of 20 even though they live only minutes away.
On this darkening day we finished our 3rd, 1000 piece puzzle in the past three weeks with two more Wysocki Holiday puzzles waiting to be started. Besides this addicting activity we are reading, going for walks, buying groceries, baking, calling friends, watching Christmas movies and special online services, and the beginnings of a new painting hobby for myself.

A SEASON Of UNCERTAINTY

We wait and wait
and isolate

We lose and mourn
while new lives are born

We cry and plead
it's hope we need

our plans are changed
new dreams are entertained

We wait and wait
a vaccine to anticipate

To be together with family, we long
yet in a tiny bubble we belong

The One who created mankind came
he has remained constant - the same

This gift of Jesus, the Christmas baby boy
is here to give us Hope, Peace, Love, and lasting Joy.

The darkness of winter is upon us, but an even greater darkness is the Covid 19 virus which is creating isolation, despair, anxiety and much death.

"Come, O come

Be our light

Drive out the darkness

Come, Jesus, Come"

from the album

Lament Song

"Arise, shine, your light has broken through

The Eternal One's brilliance has dawned upon you.

Isaiah 60:1  The Voice translation
